The mission of Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) is to enrich Habitat for Humanity of Dane County’s partnerships by providing opportunities for young professionals to volunteer, advocate, and network with other positively minded young professionals.
Who We Are
HYP of Dane County is a diverse group of young professionals who share resources, time and talents to make a difference in the Madison community. We are dedicated to improving the world around us by helping families within our community. HYP is building the next generation of Habitat volunteers, donors, and leaders through monthly social hours, fundraising and volunteer opportunities to support Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.
The first Habitat Young Professionals group started at the Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity Affiliate in 2005 and the Austin Affiliate followed in 2006. HYP of Dane County is one of many Habitat Young Professional groups around the country. The HYP Dane County Steering Committee began meeting in early 2009 and was composed of individuals interested in expanding Young Professionals’ involvement in Habitat. HYP of Dane County was founded in November of 2009 with the first HYP Board of Directors appointed in September of 2010.
Within the first year, Habitat Young Professionals of Dane County raised over $30,000 and recruited 36 active members. The HYP volunteer committee hosted nine HYP build days on Habitat sites and partnered with the Salvation Army and Project Home. HYP volunteers logged over 1,000 hours in 2010.
Today, HYP generates enough funding to sponsor a Habitat for Humanity home each year. HYP members volunteer for 24 build days a year, with additional corporate build days each month. With over 70 active members and growing, HYP volunteers contribute over 3000 hours each year!
